Olympic Badminton - History of Badminton

There was a game called ‘Ti Jian Zi,’ which was played in ancient China. The game was involved in kicking some object like modern day shuttlecock but did not use any rackets. Another game Battledore and Shuttlecock, was being played in China, Japan and Greece. This game is played by two persons with rackets or battledores made of wooden frames, and a shuttlecock, made of some light material. The origins of the game of Badminton date back at least two thousand years to the game of battledore and shuttlecock. Badminton evolved as a children’s game during 16th century, and by the 17th century, it gained popularity amongst the upper class people of Europe.

Badminton evolved as Olympic sport in 1992. London 2012 Olympic will see Badminton being contested in Wembley Arena from Saturday 28 July to Sunday 5 August. Badminton fans can get
